From Design to Game Day
Before a shovel hits the ground, we help you see the finished field. 3D design renderings show league boards, boosters and school administrators the layout, dimensions, dugouts, lighting and turf colors, so everyone can approve the plan with confidence.

A Field Is a System, Not a Carpet
What goes under the turf decides how a field drains, plays and ages. This is how we build it, layer by layer.
Subgrade Prep & Laser Grading
Existing surface removed, soft spots corrected and the subgrade laser-graded to a precise slope so water moves where it should.
Drainage System
Perimeter collector drains, lateral drainage and outlet tie-ins sized for Florida rainfall, so the field is playable soon after a storm.
Aggregate Base
Compacted, permeable stone base, fine-graded and checked for planarity before anything goes on top.
Shock Pad
An engineered pad for impact attenuation and consistent performance across the field, often reusable through more than one turf cycle.
Shaw Sports Turf & Inlaid Lines
Slit film, monofilament or blended fiber systems with pile height and density matched to the sport, plus tufted-in lines, numbers and logos.
Infill & Grooming
Sand and performance infill installed in lifts and groomed to spec depth for footing, ball response and impact absorption.
The Right System for Each Application
A batting cage, a sled lane and a game field each need a different build. Here is how we typically spec them.
| Application | Turf | Pad | Infill |
|---|---|---|---|
| Game & practice fields | Longer-pile slit film, mono or blend | Recommended | Sand plus performance infill |
| Indoor soccer & futsal | Short to medium pile, dense | Recommended | Sand, light infill or none |
| Training gyms & sled lanes | Short, dense, high-wear pile | Optional | Non-infilled |
| Batting cages & bullpens | Dense, durable, high-traffic | Optional | Light sand or none |
Choosing the Right Infill
Infill drives heat, footing, impact and maintenance more than almost anything else. We walk you through the tradeoffs for your budget and your athletes.
| Infill Type | Best For | Heat | Notes |
|---|---|---|---|
| SBR crumb rubber | Budget-focused, high-use fields | Runs hottest | Proven shock absorption at the lowest cost |
| Coated or TPE rubber | Schools wanting rubber performance | Hot | Cleaner look, less dust and odor than raw SBR |
| Organic (coconut fiber, cork) | Heat-sensitive sites, youth play | Coolest | Holds moisture to cool the surface; needs a grooming plan |
| Mineral blends | Firm footing, less migration | Moderate | Stays in place well; usually paired with a shock pad |
| Sand only | Indoor and training areas | Moderate | Simple and stable; the pad provides the cushion |
Shaw Sports Turf options include GeoFill coconut fiber, NaturalPlay, FLXZONE cork and CoreMax mineral infills, plus the NXTPlay shock pad made from recycled turf.
Built for Florida
From the Panhandle to Miami, Florida fields face heat, heavy rain and hurricane season. We design for all of it from day one.
- Heat: cooler infill options, fiber selection and pre-game watering plans.
- Rain: drainage designed for summer downpours so practice is not canceled for a wet field.
- Wind & storms: secure perimeter anchoring and edge details built to hold through hurricane season.
- Sun: UV-stabilized fibers made for year-round Florida sun.
Performance & Quality Control
A serious field is measured, not guessed. We build to the specs your athletic director, league or facility calls for.
Impact (GMAX) testing
Independent testing per ASTM F1936 coordinated at install and during maintenance when your school or league requires it.
Planarity & slope
Base checked for flatness and slope before turf goes down, so there are no puddles, low spots or soft areas.
Infill depth checks
Measured across the field at install to keep footing and impact performance even from end to end.

Sports Turf FAQs
How much does a turf sports field cost?
It depends on field size, existing drainage and soil conditions, and the pad and infill you choose. After a site assessment we give you options at more than one price point so you can choose what fits your budget.
Do you install turf outside Southwest Florida?
Yes. We are based in Naples and take on sports turf projects throughout Florida, including the Gulf Coast, Central Florida and South Florida.
What turf is best for a training gym or sled lane?
Training gyms need a short, dense, high-wear turf that holds up to sled pushes and drags, usually without infill. We can inlay yard markers and logos for drills.
Can you build fields to Little League or PONY dimensions?
Yes. We lay out base paths, pitching distance, foul lines and field markings to the dimensions your league and age division use, from Little League and PONY to high school and adult fields, including inlaid batter's boxes and coaching boxes.
Do you install turf for elementary and middle school fields?
Yes. We install sports turf for every school level, from elementary playfields and middle school fields to high school stadiums and practice fields.
Do you install batting cage turf?
Yes. We install durable turf for batting cages, bullpens and pitching areas that stands up to constant cleat and ball wear, indoors or outdoors.
What turf is best for indoor soccer?
Indoor soccer typically uses a short to medium, dense pile with sand infill or none, over a shock pad for cushion. We spec it to your building and how the space is used.
How long does a synthetic sports field last?
Most athletic turf lasts about 8 to 10 years depending on hours of use and maintenance. A quality shock pad can often be reused when the turf is replaced, lowering the cost of the next cycle.
Is turf too hot for Florida?
Turf runs warmer than natural grass in full sun. We reduce heat with organic or cooling infill options, fiber choices and pre-game watering, and we cover the tradeoffs openly during design.
How does the field drain during rainy season?
The field sits on a laser-graded, permeable stone base with perimeter and lateral drainage sized for Florida rainfall, so it is usually playable shortly after a storm passes.
Can one field be lined for multiple sports?
Yes. We inlay lines in different colors so football, soccer and lacrosse can share one field without paint.
Do you work with schools, leagues and booster clubs?
Yes. We provide clear written proposals, W-9, certificate of insurance and product documentation, and schedule work around school calendars and seasons.
What maintenance does a turf field need?
Regular grooming, debris removal, infill leveling and top-offs, plus periodic inspections and GMAX testing where required. We provide a maintenance plan and can handle it for you.
